2019 Annual Report of the MREC Utrecht
The past year was quite eventful. On 1 January 2019 the MREC UMC Utrecht changed its name to MREC Utrecht, to reflect the joining of forces of UMC Utrecht and the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology.
Compared to 2018, the number of research files for studies with a medicinal product reviewed remained stable. The number of files for multicenter, investigator-initiated research decreased, however. Another development in 2019 was that most investigators chose to verbally explain their research during an MREC Utrecht meeting, which simplified our further processing of these files. Consequently, the committee was able to maintain its relatively short average review period, which at 44.3 days is well below the statutory maximum. The number of requests for advice on the applicability of the WMO went down for the first time in years.
